Haitian native, Marcel Toussaint is truly a one of a kind. Gifted beyond measure, Marcel's work truly exemplifies the heart and lifeblood of his culture. With his home country being his greatest inspiration, Marcel continuously seeks to produce a narrative and window into the "belly" of Haiti using only lines, colors, and a paintbrush!
Throughout his paintings, there is this striking theme of lines, one in which has become the framework on which all his paintings are produced. It is captivating because as we know, lines travel and they also present pleasant pathways for the viewer's eyes to follow into the mind of the artist. Marcel has exceeded that expectation. His love and use of lines set him apart in the art world, for we have not seen another style like it.
With the groundwork of lines comes his exquisite use of colors. His life's experience, dreams, and aspirations come out in every piece, providing colors to tell his story and the story of others while setting the mood for the viewers through either dimming or brightening the lights. Marcel's use of colors also provides personality to every painting, so much as if each one had its own fingerprint.
When studying his paintings, one can outrightly see a prevalence of culture. Marcel is very thoughtful with his work. Each immaculate piece exhibits that same nostalgic feel. With his knack for detail and his keen attention to the cry of Haiti, we can almost feel one with his paintings. Whether it's the young boy at the corner playing marbles for bragging rights; or the hard-working mom selling sugar cane by the street side to be able to feed her children or even two friends who get caught in the rain and resorts to using a large banana leaf as an umbrella; every piece is an invitation to participate in a deeper understanding of Life in Haiti.
As a retired Engineer, Marcel Toussaint continues to work, passing his time by refreshing the souls of many through his paintings. His love for Haiti carries on through his art, leaving an impact that could never be forgotten
